Favourable / unfavourable games
A favourable game is one where there is actually an
arithmetical advantage for the player over the bookmaker
or the casino.
Favourable games can usually only be found in betting
when a bookmaker makes a mess of his odds-making –
which is very rare.
Nor are there many occasions in casino gambling where
the odds turn in favour of the player. One such situation
can occur in single-deck games of blackjack, where a
series of cards dealt in previous hands changes the
composition of the remaining cards in a pack to the
extent that the game favours the card counter.
However, it is safe to say that in the overwhelming
majority of situations, the average punter is playing
an unfavourable game, that is, the odds are mathematically
stacked against them in favour of the house or the bookmaker.
Play long enough, and the chances are you will end up
losing money.
Of course, it is possible to succeed playing unfavourable
games, but this usually requires either a great deal
of skill, luck or a high level of expertise and judgement.
